HIRING: CIVIL SITE SUPERINTENDENT

MUST BE WILLING TO WORK OUT OF TOWN – first project located in Fort St. John, BC

Reporting to the Project Manager, the Civil Site Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the overall construction process and ensuring adherence to safety, design, budget and scheduling parameters. This role includes planning, scheduling, organizing, directing and controlling construction activities on site.

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage day-to-day site operations for civil construction projects.
  • Plan, schedule, organize, direct and control construction projects from start to finish according to schedule, specifications and budget.
  • Monitor and prepare progress reports, progress schedules to Project Manager.
  • Collaborate with clients, engineers, subcontractors, vendors and internal support divisions.
  • Provide input for estimates, budgets, schedules, procedure and policy development.
  • Supervise site activities and ensure the site is safe, clean and well organized.
  • Conduct daily site meetings, toolbox talks, employee orientations, and safety briefings.
  • Set performance goals and deadlines through developing workable schedules, and by training and communicating with employees, stakeholders, vendors etc.
  • Plan, review and communicate inspections, obtain construction permits, implement safety and quality guidelines.
  • Procure supplies, tools and equipment, maintain inventory and schedule regular maintenance.
  • Identify and resolve on-site issues and emergencies proactively to minimize delays.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety, health, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate site records, daily logs, reports, and documentation.
  • Liaise with inspectors, engineers, and clients as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in the civil and mine construction industry, construction operations and processes.
  • Knowledge in underground utility installations in municipal settings.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Must have a general understanding of construction contracts and change management.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in supervisory, management or leadership roles.
  • Strong background in civil construction (earthworks, utilities, roads, concrete, etc.)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license in good standing and relevant certifications as required.
  • Several years’ experience in construction; including developing schedules, planning and maintaining budgets.
  • Interpreting and complying according to specifications and other documents.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience training others in health and safety requirements and guidelines for construction sites.
  • General knowledge working with computers and working in MS Office.
  • MUST understand the importance of completing paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Comfortable working with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).  
  • Ability to transition from hands-on field work to daily planning and organization tasks.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and to work collaboratively through and with others.
  • Superior organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to set priorities, multi-task and make sound decisions.
  •  A motivated self-starter who is responsible, takes initiative, and demonstrates independence.
  • Must have the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions on site in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with applicable provincial OHS regulations and company safety programs.
