Compensation and Benefits

Wage Rate:  $0.60 per mile

Equivalent Annual Salary:  $65,500 – $74,000 per year (based on typical annual mileage)

Additional Compensation and Benefits:

  • Paid vacation: 10 calendar days per year or 4% of vacation pay
  • Company-provided equipment: fuel card, Electronic Logging Device (ELD), and GPS unit.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate company tractor-trailer combinations (minimum three axles) to transport freight safely across Canada and on Canada–U.S. cross-border routes, in full compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations.
  • Use GPS navigation and mapping tools to plan the most time- and fuel-efficient routes.
  • Obey all traffic laws and follow established transportation and safety procedures at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all cargo picked up and delivered, including bills of lading and proof of delivery documentation.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip vehicle inspections; monitor tire pressure, oil, and fluid levels; perform minor roadside repairs as required; report any accidents, defects, or delays to dispatch immediately.
  • Communicate proactively with customers and dispatch regarding any delays in pickups or deliveries.
  • Ensure proper tarping and load securement in accordance with applicable safety standards; handle hazardous materials safely as required.
  • Maintain and log freight information both manually and electronically, including hours of service (HOS) records, distances driven, rest stop durations, proof of delivery, and all fuel, repair, and toll expenses.
  • Complete all trip-related paperwork including route sheets, work orders, scale tickets, mileage reports, and expense claims.
  • Ensure all cross-border documentation (customs, permits, manifests) is accurate and in order prior to departure.
  • Receive load and route instructions from dispatch; plan and adjust routes accordingly.
  • Perform minor emergency repairs including tire changes, fuse and bulb replacement, installing tire chains, and similar tasks.
  • Operate solo or as part of a two-driver team as required by operational needs.

 

Requirements and Qualifications

Essential — All applicants must meet the following:

  • Valid Class 1 (AZ) driver's licence issued in Canada, in good standing.
  • Minimum one (1) year of verifiable commercial long-haul truck driving experience.
  • Clean police background check.
  • Clean driver's abstract and clean CVOR abstract, acceptable to company standards.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with all applicable federal, provincial, and state vehicular and transportation regulations.
  • Ability to operate manual and automatic transmission tractor-trailers.
  • Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written).
  • Willingness to travel on extended long-haul routes, including overnight and multi-day runs.
