Job Description

Flynn Canada Ltd. is currently recruiting skilled Senior Estimators (commercial) to fill 2 F/T vacancies in the Hamilton (890 Arvin Ave., Stoney Creek, ON L8E 5Y8).

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
  • Prepare master format estimates (Class A)
  • Prepare elemental format estimates (Classes B, C, D)
  • Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications, estimate pre-contract costs
  • Utilize quantity take-off procedures, advise on tendering procedures, analyze tenders and recommend awards
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems
  • Monitor and adjust contract expenditures
  • Prepare and maintain directory of supplies and trade contractors
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates, prepare price quotations
  • Establish and maintain contact with suppliers
  • Coach colleagues on new methods or work techniques
  • Prepare contract documents and evaluate tenders
  • Review quotations
  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress

 

Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum 5 years' of Estimating/Roofing experience in the ICI (Roofing) industry
  • College diploma or post-graduate certificate in industry relevant program I.e. Construction Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology

 

 Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to work and communicate with others
  • Ability to learn and obey our extensive company safety policy
  • Ability to read blueprints, plans and specifications
  • Strong computer skills and proficient with MS Office
  • Excellent oral & written communication
  • Excellent math skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Organized and time-efficient
  • Professional, motivated to learn and a career-minded individual
  • Proficiency with Building Envelope Related Wind Uplift Standards. (NBC, ULC, FM Global)

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Permanent full-time at 40 hours a week
  • $79,000 annual salary
  • 2 weeks paid vacation for the 1st year of employment and 3 weeks thereafter
  • Benefits include: Extended Medical, Dental, Accidental Death & Disability Insurance, Life Insurance, as well as optional Registered Retirement Savings Plan & Deferred Profit-Sharing Plan with company contribution up to $2500 annually
  • Eligible to participate in the bonus plan in effect which currently offers the opportunity to earn a bonus up to a maximum of 15% of your base salary. This bonus will be based upon your performance and is measured against goals established with your Manager and/or based upon your performance as measured by the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), as well as the overall profitability of Flynn
  • Company car and fuel card provided by the employer
