Position:                                                              Floor Covering Installer

Duration:                                                             Permanent, Full-Time (will also consider part-time workers)

Hours:                                                                   30 hrs /week

Salary:                                                                   $29.00/hr

Overtime:                                                            $43.50/hr (As per BC Standards – for over 8 hrs/day; 40 hrs/wk)

Observed Holidays:                                        As outlined on labour.gov.bc.ca – 10 holidays/yr

Duties:

• Study floor sketches and take measurements to calculate the area to be covered
• Interpret substrate requirements to be covered to determine its condition and correct any imperfections such as filling grout lines
• Prepare the surface area by undercutting door jambs, checking moisture content between flooring and substrate and flatness requirements
• Removal of existing floor, trims and bases by  approximate method such scraping, grinding, sanding
• Trim and cut underpadding for carpets and underlying for hard woods using tools such as carpet hook knives, Loop pile cutter, Z-bar trimmer, Trowels, nails, adhesives and other instruments
• Install carpet and hardwoods by determining direction and location of seams, Pattern direction using installation tools such as Drive bars, Staplers, Hammers and adhesive materials
• Stretch carpet to align with walls and ensure a smooth surface using Carpet tucker, Knee Kicker, Carpet spreader, Stretching board  
• Clean up before and after installation, including vacuuming carpet and discarding remnant pieces
• Repair damaged floor by determining cause and selecting best method to solve the issues
• Ensure safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
