- Prepare and cook traditional African dishes such as soups, stews, rice dishes, grilled meats, and specialty meals
- Plan menus and ensure authentic African recipes and flavors are maintained
- Prepare ingredients (wash, peel, chop vegetables, season meats, and measure spices)
- Monitor food quality, freshness, taste, and presentation
- Ensure meals are cooked according to customer orders and restaurant standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely (grills, fryers, ovens, stoves, mixers)
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and food preparation areas
- Check inventory and inform management of food and ingredient shortages
- Store food properly and follow Canadian food safety regulations
- Assist in training kitchen helpers or assistant cooks when needed
- Manage portion control and reduce food waste
- Ensure timely preparation during busy service periods
- Follow health and safety standards set by local public health authorities in Canada
