Job Title: MANUFACTURING COST ESTIMATOR

Location :  103 – 31413 Gill Ave, Mission, BC V4S 0C4

Terms of employment: Permanent, full-time

Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week

Wage: $39.00 per hour

Overtime: Paid in accordance with the BC Employment Standards Act

Language of work: English

ABOUT TD STEEL

TD Steel is a steel processing and custom fabrication company operating from a facility in Mission, BC. Our capabilities include laser and plasma cutting, brake press forming, shearing, plate rolling, saw cutting, machining, and custom structural and miscellaneous metal fabrication.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Collect and compile operational and experimental production data and assist in the development of cost estimates, schedules, specifications and reports for steel processing and custom fabrication work.
  • Conduct work measurement, time study and related studies to establish standard machine run times and labour standards for laser cutting, plasma cutting, forming, shearing, rolling, sawing, machining and welding operations.
  • Develop and conduct production, inventory and quality assurance programs, including material yield, remnant utilization and scrap allowance standards applied across estimating and production.
  • Collect and analyze data and samples in support of quality assurance and industrial health and safety programs, and incorporate the resulting cost factors into estimating standards.
  • Develop production processes, quality assurance programs, plans and schedules in the metal fabrication industrial area.
  • Assist in the design of plant layouts and production facilities, including work cell arrangement, material flow and equipment loading, to reduce handling time and processing cost.
  • Develop manufacturing and processing procedures and variables, set or verify machine and equipment parameters, oversee production and inspect processes against estimated methods and standards.
  • Develop and apply CAD/CAM (computer-assisted drafting, computer-assisted manufacturing) applications supporting the control of CNC (computer numerical control) cutting, forming and machining equipment, including nesting and processing sequences used to derive cost.
  • Perform material take-offs from engineering and fabrication drawings, 3D models and specifications, and calculate material, labour, consumable, outside processing and freight costs.
  • Review completed jobs against estimates, analyze cost variances and recommend corrective action to reduce waste and processing cost.
  • Maintain the estimating database, standard costing rates, routing templates and historical cost records.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a two- or three-year Post Secondary program or equivalent in industrial engineering technology, manufacturing technology, mechanical engineering technology, architectural technology, or a related technical discipline. An equivalent combination of post-secondary technical education and directly related experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum two (2) years of combined experience in estimating, take-offs, project costing, production planning or technical project coordination in a metal fabrication, manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering, fabrication or structural drawings and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software and CNC nesting or processing software (OmniWin or comparable), and in the ff; Communication software ; Data analysis software; Database software: AutoCAD: MS Access: MS Excel: MS Outlook; MS PowerPoint; MS Word.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance methods and work measurement or production scheduling practices.
  • Strong analytical and numerical ability; accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Legally able to work in Canada.
